About

The Foundation for the Advancement of Medicine (FAM) was created in 1994 as a California non-profit corporation to assist health care professionals in their research, clinical trial, patient education, and social service programs in the San Diego, California area.

The IRS has designated FAM as 501(c) 3 entity. This designation means the Foundation is considered by the IRS as a public charity corporation that is allowed to receive donations engage in research projects, and enter into contracts and grant agreements as a tax free enterprise. In addition it means that donations are generally tax deductible to the donor*.

Since 1994 FAM has managed a research grant to develop a vaccine to combat the AIDS/HiV virus using a very novel approach. In addition FAM created “Let’s Celebrate, a project to provide social services to the 80-100 children under the age of 18 who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. From 1995 to 2001 FAM received enough donations to allow the project managers to have an individual birthday party for each child and also to have a Christmas/Holiday party for the children, their families and their care givers. The recent economic problems have curtailed the individual birth day parties; however the Christmas/Holiday party has been maintained. The most recent project FAM is undertaking is a program to help homeless veterans and their families in San Diego County.

FAM is managed by volunteers and except for the purchase of supplies, computer and software upgrades and insurance, all money and items donated to FAM go to the program that it is designated for.

Thank you for visiting our web site and we hope after reading more about our programs you will decide to help us continue our programs through a donation of money, goods or memorabilia that we can auction on our FAM Store page.
